Key points
- Travoprost 0.004% eye drops, solution, belongs to the prostaglandin analogue class of antiglaucoma preparations.
- It works by raising the drainage of aqueous humour, with an onset of 2 to 4 hours and an effect lasting 24 hours.
- Iris darkening and eyelash changes can develop slowly; iritis and macular oedema are serious effects that need immediate medical attention.
What travoprost is used for
Travoprost lowers intraocular pressure in adults with glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Open-angle glaucoma is the form most often treated with this type of drop. Bringing the pressure down reduces the chance of optic nerve damage and the vision loss that follows it.
How it works
The active ingredient is a prostaglandin F2alpha analogue. It acts on the eye to improve the drainage of aqueous humour, the fluid that circulates inside the eye, so pressure falls. The drop begins to work within 2 to 4 hours and its effect is held for about 24 hours.
The travoprost eye drop solution at 0.004% comes in a bottle and sits within the wider range of eye care medicines. Pharmacy partners in India ship to Malaysia in discreet packaging.
Safety
Do not use travoprost if you are hypersensitive to it or to any other ingredient in the solution. It is for adults. It must not be used during pregnancy, and use should be avoided while breastfeeding.
Treatment can slowly increase pigmentation of the iris and alter the length, thickness or number of eyelashes. Eye irritation and conjunctival hyperaemia are common; blurred vision and dry eye are also reported. Iritis and macular oedema are serious and require immediate medical attention. If you use other eye drops, tell your doctor, as doses may need to be spaced apart so each is absorbed.
