Key points
- Triamcinolone belongs to the cortical steroid group of corticosteroids.
- It is supplied as a 4mg tablet.
- How quickly it acts and how long its effect lasts vary.
What it is used for
Triamcinolone tablets are taken for eczema, psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions. In each of these conditions, inflammation in the skin is what treatment aims to reduce. Corticosteroids such as triamcinolone are used for inflammatory skin disease, and the tablet is taken by mouth.
How it works
Triamcinolone acts as a synthetic corticosteroid. It suppresses the immune system and reduces inflammation by inhibiting the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Those substances are part of the inflammatory signalling behind the conditions it treats, so limiting their release reduces inflammation.
Aristocort contains triamcinolone as its active ingredient and comes as a 4mg tablet. Pharmacy partners in India ship orders to Malaysia in discreet packaging.
Before you use it
Do not use triamcinolone if you are hypersensitive to it or if you have a bacterial skin infection. Use it sparingly on fragile skin, and avoid covering the treated area. Use with caution in children. If you are pregnant, discuss triamcinolone with a doctor. If you are breastfeeding, consult a medical professional.
Side effects
Effects can be minor, moderate or serious. Itching and dryness are minor side effects. Skin thinning and stretch marks can also occur. Adrenal suppression and severe infection are serious effects, and both require immediate medical attention.
